1. Sourdough Cinnamon Roll Bites

Sweet, bite-sized, and perfect for little hands to help make!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard works great)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Filling:

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

For the Icing:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk or cream
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Mix the sourdough starter, flour, milk, sugar, melted butter, and salt in a bowl until a soft dough forms. Let rest for 1 hour.
  2. Roll the dough out into a rectangle (about 1/4-inch thick).
  3. Spread melted butter over the dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Roll tightly into a log and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  5. Place the bites in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 2 hours.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Mix icing ingredients and drizzle over the warm cinnamon bites.

2. Sourdough Soft Pretzels

Twist them into fun shapes, letters, or animals for a hands-on snack!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

For Boiling & Topping:

  • 6 cups water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse salt or cinnamon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Combine sourdough starter, water, sugar, salt, and flour to form a dough. Knead for 5 minutes, then let it rest for 1-2 hours.
  2. Divide dough into 8 pieces and roll into ropes. Shape into pretzels, letters, or animals.
  3. Boil water with baking soda. Drop pretzels in for 30 seconds, then place on a greased baking sheet.
  4. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt or cinnamon sugar.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

3. Sourdough Rainbow Bagels

A colorful, magical treat that’s as fun to make as it is to eat!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Gel food coloring (various colors)

For Boiling & Topping:

  • 6 cups water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Optional: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or rainbow sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Mix starter, water, sugar, salt, and flour to form a dough. Knead until smooth and let rest for 2 hours.
  2. Divide dough into 4-6 sections and knead a few drops of food coloring into each until vibrant.
  3. Roll each section into ropes, twist the colors together, and form bagel shapes.
  4. Let rest for 30 minutes. Boil water with honey and drop bagels in for 30 seconds.
  5. Place boiled bagels on a baking sheet, sprinkle with toppings if desired, and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes.
